Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.
The creative mastermind did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.
On the Overwhelming Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.
A Pressing Query: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.
“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Of course, why not reference the classics?
“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
