The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
