The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer behind a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

- Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
- Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
