Followers Urge Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the actress are demanding that a individual who jumped a barricade and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram profile features recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more response on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and scored a dozen award recognitions, securing several for best costume and artistic direction.
