Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed his decision to support former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, despite an extended period of strained relations between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Just last month, Adams had publicly condemned Cuomo, labeling him a “snake and a liar” and alleging of having “a career of pushing Black candidates out of races.” Nonetheless, in a recent statement, Mayor Adams changed his position, revealing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in communities where he maintains significant backing.

“I think that it is imperative to really wake up the Black and brown communities that have been affected by urban displacement on how important this race is,” the mayor stated.

The mayor further explained, “Residents have seen their rents increase in terms of gentrification and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I plan to visit to those neighborhoods and talk directly with organizers and groups and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them involved.”

Race Dynamics and Current Developments

The election battle has so far been shaped by the contest between Cuomo and progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani, whose growing support has made headlines worldwide and represented aspirations for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democratic party.

In a latest candidate forum, both Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa declared they would refuse the mayor's support if offered.

Months ago, the mayor had launched his bid for another term as an independent after being indicted on federal corruption charges which were later dismissed in return for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

During a separate media briefing on Thursday, Adams answered reporters asking about the endorsement plan by saying, “I’ll be with Andrew this evening.”

This development followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen attending a game side-by-side at the the NBA team's first game at Madison Square Garden, which occurred immediately following a contentious mayoral debate.
